Date: 9/19//97 >Dear Dr. Turley: >I just want you to know that I have just finished visiting your web site for the first time. It is very enjoyable, and please pass on my thanks to "St. Nick" for me.... >I've never had an email conversation with you, but I've been a frequent contributor to comp.sys.apple2 at least twice in the recent past. I've also left the group twice because of certain people--and you are not one of them. I have "formally" left the group and will not post publicly there any longer, but I do still read the group and respond to posts via private email. >The current state of affairs with this group is really pathetic. I wish there were some way that Nathan Mates could be vanished from the group once and for all. He's not the only one who is hostile, but he's the main ring leader as far as I'm concerned, and he *certainly* does nothing to endear users to the Apple II platform. If I were not an Apple II user LONG before my Internet connection began, I wouldn't use the platform anymore out of spite for him, that's for sure. >Besides his extreme rudeness to those who post (which included myself in the past), I distinctly do not like this evangelism on his part that singles out people like yourself and carries on a private war with them in public. This is not only bad taste, but again, bad for the Apple II platform. It makes the entire group look like a bunch of babies. >I don't know anything about you personally, whether you in fact are a former drug user as Nathan purports, or whether you've pirated software, and frankly, I don't care about those things. All I can see is that you are someone who is sticking up for the platform and doing something in a positive way to show folks that it is still a viable platform for use. That's all that is really important. You also don't knock down Macintosh, another pet peeve I have against Nathan. He does not deserve to be in charge of the Apple ][ FAQ in my opinion. That FAQ is full of slams, both direct and indirect, at Apple Computer and at the Macintosh platform. It is inappropriate for him to be able to spew his opinion at these two things within a FAQ that is meant to be for factual information, not personal opinion. >I have not conveyed to Nathan my exact feelings above, because, quite frankly, I don't want to receive a nasty email message from him. I don't need that. I don't want anything to do with him. But I'm writing you to both voice my opinion on all this and to let you know that I appreciate your attitude toward all that has happened. Obviously, it is my hope that things someday change on that group and that it goes back to being the kind of useful group it once was. >Thanks for listening.
