Apple IIgs computer. 2. 1.25 meg memory(minimum). 3. One 3.5" disk drive (hard disk recommended). 4. Apple IIgs System Disk 5.0 or greater. What is D.T.Painter? It's a complete Apple IIgs paint program under the disguise of an NDA (New Desk Accessory). When your computer is booted from a disk that contains the D.T.Painter program in the SYSTEM/DESK.ACCS folder you have access to it from within any program that uses the standard Apple IIgs desktop interface (host program). The program works in host programs that run in either 320 or 640 Super Hi-Res modes. All drawing is done in the mode that the host program is running in. How do I install D.T.Painter? All you need to do to install the program is to copy it into the SYSTEM/DESK.ACCS folder of a copy of your Apple IIgs System disk or hard disk drive. If you do not have enough room on your system disk to install D.T.Painter then you can install it into memory AFTER booting up your system using one of the many NDA/CDA installer programs available as freeware or shareware in the public domain. These programs can add an NDA to your apple menu (or a CDA to your CDA Control panel) from any disk or folder that it is in. Some of these programs are actually NDA's themselves and will easily fit on a complete System disk 5.0 or greater without modifications. To find out more about these programs contact your local Apple User Group or one of the public domain software distributing businesses. Your local Apple dealer MIGHT even be able to help you out. What programs won't D.T.Painter work with? D.T.Painter is a very flexible program and adjusts itself to run within most host programs, but there are some programs that do non-standard things to the Apple IIgs desktop enviroment. The things I am talking about are the use of more then one Super Hi-Res mode and/or more then one color palette at the same time. D.T.Painter checks for these conditions when you select it from the Apple menu. If it finds either to be true it will tell you so and close itself. One other thing that a host program might do is to change Super Hi-Res modes improperly while D.T.Painter is on the desktop. Proper switching of modes requires the host program to close all New Desk Accessories before switching modes. If a program does this while D.T.Painter is running, D.T.Painter will find out about it and close itself. How do I use D.T.Painter? Just select D.T.Painter from the Apple menu of the host program that you are using. Click the mouse or press a key to clear the title screen and start drawing. To quit D.T.Painter click the CLOSE box in the upper left corner of the programs window. Drawing Tools The Tools are displayed on the left side of the programs window. This type paper size setting will cause pictures that are a full printed page in size to be truncated by a few lines to fit within the automatic margins set up for this paper type. If you are going to print a full printed page size picture then use fan fold paper and select this type paper with this function. This will allow the entire picture to be printed on a single page since no margins are set for this type of paper. Selecting Edit Color when using the host programs colors (ie Use Host Colors item selected) causes the Use Pic Colors item (described below) to be activated. This causes the current pic colors to be replaced with the host colors. All color editing effects only these new pic colors. Use Pic/Host Colors - Toggles which colors are used, those of the host program or those that were loaded with a picture from disk. If a picture was loaded from disk and was created in the same Super Hi-Res mode the program is running within then the Use Pic Colors item will be enabled and selectable, otherwise it is disabled until either a picture is loaded that was created in the same Super Hi-Res mode or you have selected the Edit Color item described above and attempted to edit the colors.
