Nothing fancy here, just a little program I wrote to fix the colors on my desktop. This program will read in a 320 mode non-compressed SHR picture and convert it to a 640 mode picture using only the 15 colors available on the desktop. This graphic can then be used with the DeskColor CDev as a desktop background. Operation: - When run, the program will display a standard open file dialog. You may select a file to convert or hit the quit button to exit. - The graphic will be loaded and displayed. You must click the mouse button to continue. - A standard save dialog will appear, if you wish to save the converted file, you may do so now. Otherwise, click on the Cancel button. The Open file dialog will reappear, you may continue or quit. Notes: - This program will make your background picture look much nicer in 640 mode, but much worse in 320 mode. I think its a good deal anyway, since I don't use any programs which allow you to see the background in 320 mode. - Don't use this with multiple pallette or mixed mode graphics. It won't crash, but the results will be weird. - This works best with 'drawn' pictures, digitized pix will be UGLY! This is because most drawn graphics tend to use a wide range of colors while digitized pictures tend to use several shades of the same color. Using the avaiable desktop colors, there are not enough shades to display them. - While the resulting pictures may look nicer on screen, they will not look as good as the original when printed, therefore don't use these graphics for DTP. - It is possible to load a picture that is already in 640 mode, but the results will be lousy.
