To the Apple2 community:
I would like to take this opportunity on the 11th anniversary
of the release of the first Apple IIgs to congratulate its designers,
its hardware and software developers and its users. In a paraphrase and
translation of an old Chilean version of the "birthday song",
may you
and it have "many more years of life, of use and of joy."
The Apple IIgs is alone among computers in being naturally
backwardly compatible with most of the great software developed for
its predecessors, the earlier Apple2 models, although its capabilities
far exceed those of its ancestors. Steve Wozniak's original idea of a
computer built about its address and data busses instead of just about
its CPU chip, set the trend in microcomputer design which has ever since
dominated modern machine design.
With my very best wishes,
Prof. H. Levinson
