This makes you an employee. ** If you go into the Hosaka Building, you can get up to 6 (?) ** paychecks from the company. After that you are caught. ** BUT!!!!! You get $10,000 per week!!!!! () This will get you into the High Tech Area with access to all () The buildings, so you can go into Sense/Net (South). 8) Give Security pass to the computer 9) You now have a choice of three Rom Constructs A) Dixie Flatline : 0467839 B) Toshiro Mifune : 6905984 C) Rombo : 5521426 A) Get Dixie Flatline. When in Cyberspace, Hit 'R' and then go into () Monitor mode. He will tell you about: When you have reached the () End of a zone, when the Ice is aware of your intrusion, if there () Is an AI there, when you are about to die, etc. Also, () Being an employee at Hosaka allows you access to any of the '#2' () Cyberspace jacks at Hitachi, Fuji, Musabori, and, of course, Hosaka. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ ******************************************************************************* ][ VERSION ONLY To see what you may ask someone, go to monitor mode, and type 8450 and while in contact with such a person. Hit return to pass through your options, and you will see all that you can ask that person. This will show you all possible acceptable words to use. For example: Objective is security pass: You could ask Lupus "Pass" or "Security". (Monitor can be obtained by entering call-151 and then the "#" key.) Passwords for 'normal' uplink boards can be found, after entering a particular boards link code, by using the monitor at about 1040 onward. If you see "no password" listed, use sequencer 1.0. ******************************************************************************* ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Movement in Cyberspace is Up = 'O'; Down = 'L'; Left = 'K'; Right = ';'. On the GS, you can also use the arrow keys. Movement in Real World is the same, but using the arrow keys is faster. For Cybereyes, do the following. 1) Log onto Maas Biolabs (Zone 6) and turn off 2 part security system. 2) Go to Julius Dean and buy "Exotic" gas mask. 3) Wear the mask. 4) Go into Maas Biolabs and get free Cybereyes (w/ unlimited storage). Additional money making/saving tips: 1) To save money on a cyberdeck, aside from the free cybereyes, ask Asano why Crazy Edo calls him a pig, and then say you hate Edo. 2) Upload Comlink 6.0 to Hosaka. 3) Call Regular Fellows and get Battle Chess 2.0. 1) Call World Chess and become a member. 2) Compete & you can win up tp two games for cash. 4) To get 30000 in an account for you, do the following: 1) Call link code Bozobank with password with either the Sequencer or through Cyberspace. 2) Make an account for yourself. Number will be '712345450134'. 3) Call Bank Gemeinschaft, either through cyberspace, or with The link code Bankgemein and the password Verboten 4) Do a funds transfer as follows: A) Type in from account '646328356481'. $30000 will be there. B) Type in to bank link code 'Bozobank'. C) Type in amount to transfer '30000'. D) Type in account to transfer to (yours) '712345450134'. E) This will get you $30000 free. 5) If you play dub (musicianship skill) for the old man on the Zion Cluster, you get a free ride to Freeside Orbital! 6) If you call him a "Wilson" you get a free ride to earth. 7) A cheap way to return from Freeside is to go to Bank Gemeinschaft's Vault (far right). Use the Government password. ("BG1066"). Put all your money in your Bank account via the Pax machine Located there. Once you have saved your money, go to Villa Straylight (Far left) and wait there until you die. You will re-awaken at the body shop, and the man there tells You that he brought you back for the amount of money you had on you when you died-WHICH WAS NOTHING! 8) Remember when you die, that you lose all the money you have on You. Also, you may lose money from your account when you are arrested. So you might wish to keep your cash safe in the account of yours that you created for funds transfer (See #4). 9) When you become a member of Hosaka Inc, see Rom Card-getting one-- You can, once a week, get a $10,000 paycheck! You can get away with it 6 times. X) There is a Col.(?) guy, at least he has a military rank- he wants you to join him in his "war". He will give you $10,000 if you give him your Bama I.D. Number. However, this may, or may not, get you in later trouble. This message can be found and replied to on the main bulletin board on the Pax. Not Recommended. ****************************************************************************** ****************************************************************************** Part IV: Editing your Neuromancer Disk. Editing your Character/Skills... First, save your 7 letter character game at position 3. On a 3.5, your character can be found on Block 105 (Track 0A Sector 09) On a 5.25, your character can be found on Track 6, sector 6 The bytes refering to your cashflow are, on both versions, bytes 9C-9F. The following bytes give you working skills that are strong enough to win: FF means you do not have that skill; 00 means you are level 1 at that skill. They are the group of 16 FF's (or whatever you have) before your name. Bytes: ][ GS ][ E 71: 72: Barganing: 03 * Use to get lower prices sometimes * 72: 73: Coptalk: 03 * Use to talking to cops & people * 73: 74: Software Analysis: 03 * Ability to determine use of warez * 74: 75: Debug: 03 * Ability to repair damaged warez * 75: 76: Hardware Repair: 03 * Ability to repair damaged deck * 76: 77: Ice Breaking: 0C * Level of Ice Breaking Skill * 77: 78: Evasion: 05 * Escapes from AI combat sometimes * 78: 79: Cryptology: 03 * Decodes words into passwords * 79: 7A: Japanese: 03 * No idea ? * 7A 7B: Logic: 0C * AI combat skill * 7B 7C: Psychoanalysis: 05 * Determines AI weakness * 7C 7D: Phenomenology: 0C * AI combat skill * 7D 7E: Philosophy: 0C * AI combat skill * 7E 7F: Sophistry: 0C * AI combat skill * 7F 80: Zen: 0C * Heals you twice in AI combat * 80 81: Musicianship: 00 * plays music for the guy in space * Editing your software: If you look at track 6, sectors 5 & 6 (][E), or Block 105(][GS), you will notice bytes such as this "FF 00 00 00". This is an 'empty' spot on your deck, depending on how large a storage capacity you currently have (See Cybereyes..). FF means no sofware. 00 means version number. 00 & 00 mean damaged software. to debug, change last two bytes back to 00. Ex: Battle Chess 4.0, looks like this: 18 04 00 00. Battle Chess 2.0, looks like this: 18 02 00 00. A damaged B C 4.0 might is: 18 04 34 89. (change last 2 to 00 to fix it.). The position of your software changes with each new deck you aquire. Ex on GS version: Using only Comlink 1.0 (OA 01 00 00) on the deck to test.. UXB: Byte 148 Cyberspace 7: Byte 138 CyberEyes: Byte 13C. So don't add too much software until you are sure how many places you are allowed. A good trick would be to continually download one ware until your deck is full, and then when editing replace those spots with needed warez. I would recommend against editng the first ware on your deck, as it may cause a "Hardware Failure". Replace it via Erasure & Substitution in the game. IE: Edit in Comlink 6.0 and then use the Erase option on 1.0. Comlink 6.0 is needed to access Cyberspace, or use Cyberspace 1.0 Blammo (any version) when used, is a virus that attacks your warez. Having Battlechess 4.0 in your deck will (I think) nullify it. Viruses against Ice can be used only once. Carry several. Carry extras of certain programs, an attack could damage them.. Software: (not all, just the very very best-you don't need anything else ever). (you will find that some cannot be found on DB's, since the version number is a bit high, but they still work...). Mimic 9.0 00 09 00 00 Actually 2.0, but why not. Allows you to bypass Ice on lower levels if you use #2 -> Tax Audit A note on BattleChess 4.0: I tried getting past Phantom w/it, and nothing happened. I re-edited it, placing it in several other positions, and nothing happened. I went to World Chess's DB (after offing the AI) and D/led it there, and for some odd reason, that version worked. Very strange A note on comlink 6.0. My ][E version has 6.0 as 0A 05, yet GS is at 0A 06. I have used comlink as 7.0 (edit a higher version number in) with no loss. So as long as your comlink allows you access to cyberspace, you are okay.). The two games, as you play them, are exactly alike in all respects, IE the passwords, link codes, and zone levels are all the same. ****************************************************************************** ****************************************************************************** Part V: Talking to people. The objective of Neuromancer is to roam the 'real world', getting your skills (except japanese), upgrades, and information on life in the Net. Once you have aquired Comlink 6.0, and have called all available non-cyberspace boards (and seen Finn) for Ice Breaking software, you are ready for Cyberspace. With the software available to you when you enter Zone Zero, you are capable of defeating the strongest Ice on that level (132). And, as you attack more and more bases, you will gain more powerful software, enabling you to attack the stronger Ice of the higher levels. Some of the Ice breaking Software you will see at first will be Decoder, Drill, Blowtorch, etc (Use software analysis skill for more.). Virus Programs, programs that attack Ice, but can be used only once, (so carry a lot) are Acid, Thunderhead, Injector, etc (Soft A.). More important than attack, however, is the use of programs that slow down Ice Attacks on you. These are Slow and Jammies.----> for other software, see the editing section. Now, Ice combat is fine, so long as you manage to switch to more powerful software as you ascend the levels. As a rule, the newest software is probably the best. If you wish to save your game and experiment, use Probe, it can tell you the strength of the ice, and subsequently the strength after an attack by your software- but damage varries per attack, so get an average. Remember to carry duplicates of important programs such as Comlink 6.0, and your attack software, for once you lose your sheilds, your programs can be crashed by the attacker. Use software debug in normal space, or if you have a Rom Construct, see getting Rom Construct, have it debug your software while still in Cyberspace. Finally, AI combat. As you battle Ice, some will have AI's (see chart), attack these AI in the order of ascending strength (see chart) as you will gain experience in your AI combat skills for each AI you kill. For example, the First AI you can kill is Chrome, the Psychoanalysis AI. Killing him enables you to kill Morphy, the World Chess AI, and so on. AI's such as Greystoke LEAVE ALONE, you need special software (listed) to kill them, not AI skills. To actually Fight an AI, you must first determine it's primary weakness to one of your 4 skills. This is, however, unnecessary, as I have listed each AI with it's weakness. Your first step, then, is to attack the AI with it's primary weakness. For example, attack Chrome with Philosophy. He will respond, as all AI's will when you hurt them the first time, with a phrase. His is "psychopath!". Continue attacking with Philosophy until you can use Philosophy no longer. This means it is time to use the other three skills IN ANY ORDER, to finish him off, ie: logic, sophistry, phenomenology; OR Sophistry, logic, phenomenolgy, ETC.. Use the second attack skill you have chosen until it, like the Primary one, stops functioning. Then attack with a THIRD (of the remaining two) until it wears out, and then finish Chrome off with the last of your combat skills, and he will die. [If your defenses in AI combat are weakening, you can use the Zen skill a few times to repair it and buy you enough time to kill him]. This is an example of how to kill an AI. For Morphy, Whose Primary weakness is Logic, Attack with Logic, then the other three. After killing him, your AI combat skills should have gone up one each. There is also an upgrade for these skills on the Turning Registry Board up on Zone 3. When you get the hang of it, the objective is to survive to become strong enough in Ice Breaking to break the Ice strength of 2000 on Phantom of Level 7 and shoot Phantom AI with Battlechess 4.0 (See World Chess). He will give you Hemlock 1.0 to kill Greystoke on Zone Two. Greystoke will, in turn, have Kaung Eleven 1.0 with which you use to kill Neuromancer (See Neuromancer AI). Killing Neuromancer will win you the game. ***************************************************************************** ***************************************************************************** Part VII: NEUROMANCER WALK THROUGH: The Beginning to your entry into Cyberspace... Typed once again by the Starcommander.. This is a companion to my lastest Neuromancer hint file. The basic plot of Neuromancer is to enter cyberspace to combat and destroy Neuromancer. However, in order to get even this far, you must unravel the mysteries of the "real world" to gain the necessary skills and equipment to survive Cyberspace. In the above list, nearly all tricks and methods for gaining money, the most difficult aspect of the game, are listed; however, knowing what to do with your money is just as difficult. For this reason, I am endeavoring to create a walk through which will enable a player to journey through the real world, and enter Cyberspace. Once there, my Cyberspace map and combat advice from the main list will carry you through to the end. First off, you appear in the Chatsubo Diner (Restaurant, whatever). You will notice that the patron demands a payment of 46 credits. To pay him, access the Pax machine on the wall, and access the banking interlink. Download at least 46 credits (you will need more for yourself later in the game..) and pay the man by selecting the credits and "give". Then enter "46". Now you can leave, but talk to him. You will notice a balloon about your deck. By selecting this one, you learn that Shin- of Shin's pawn shop - has your deck. Leave the Diner, (It will seal up for the rest of the game when you leave.) and proceed east towards Shin's Pawn Shop. Once in Shin's pawnshop, work to regain your deck. (you notice in your inventory that you have a claim ticket..) However, DO NOT PAY FOR IT! Select balloons that have nothing to do with paying for your deck. He will then give it to you for free. You notice on your deck that you have one ware, Comlink 1.0. Your deck sucks, can hold only a few programs, so you will need to replace it, but later. Take your deck w/Comlink 1.0 West and South to the Gentleman Loser. In there, you will notice besides a Pax machine, a "jack", which enables you to access boards and/or Cyberspace. Call the second level of the Cheap Hotel DB. Select "Edit your bill". You cannot erase your bill, but you can put the EXACT amount you owe, $1000, on your account. This brings your amount owed to $0. You can now enter the Cheap Hotel. (North). Once in the Cheap Hotel, access the second level of the Cheap Hotel's DB, and select room service. Give yourself "caviar". Then re-edit your bill to pay for the caviar. Take the Caviar to Crazy Edo's. South, East, and a Southern door (no name on the door, just go south at the door outline..). Give Crazy Edo the Caviar, and he will give you Comlink 2.0 in return. With these steps out of the way, you now must: 1) Get a decent deck. 2) Fill the deck with the necessary programs for Ice Breaking and others.. 3) Get Comlink 6.0 to enter Cyberspace (an example of one of the "others"..). 4) Get your 15 skill chips, and all possible upgrades for these skill chips. 5) Get money to afford the deck, some software, skill chips, and upgrades. 6) Remember that while on-line, it costs money. So be quick. To tell the truth, you could go about these steps in any order, but most of my money saving/money making tips require high Comlinks, as in the funds transfer. So I would reccommend going for Comlink 6.0 first. Once there, you can do many things to get cash- one of which is giving 6.0 to Hosaksa for $10,000. With the money, you can buy everyhting else. And I shall try to tell you where and how to buy necessary items. Also, with the money, you can purchase a better deck, and store the Ice Breaking programs and other necessary wares without a problem of space. As of this point on the list, you now have comlink 2.0. This gives you access to the boards listed as "minimum of comlink 2.0" and all lower versions of Comlink (you can delete the lower versions of Comlink to save space on your cheap deck.). The plan will be to go get 3.0, then go to the next level of boards, get 4.0, and so on until you get 6.0. Call the Panther Moderns DB with your 2.0, and get 3.0 from them. Then call the Software Enforcement Agency and get 4.0. Then call the Eastern Seaboard DB and get Comlink 5.0. Finally, use 5.0 to call the Tozoku Imports DB and get Comlink 6.0. You now have the capability to access all non-cyberspace DBs, as well as Cyberspace itself. Your next task is to ready yourself for Cyberspace. To do this, you will need money, so go do all the money tricks listed in list one. However, for the funds transfer you will need Sequencer 1.0 from the Software Enforcement Agency DB. And for the Chess trick you will need BattleChess 2.0 from the Regular Fellows DB. It will take six weeks of GAME time to get your $60,000 from Hosaka The three best decks, in a varying degree of "quality"-ie a very very VERY rare hardwaree failure- hold 25 programs each. They are in name and cost: (After "The Pig" trick.). 1) Ninja 5000: 25600. 2) Samauri VII: 26000. 3) Cyberspace VII: 44800. Once you have a deck with enough room for your necessary programs for now and for the future, go back and get the following software programs that you will need in Cyberspace at the beginning from the non-cyberspace DBs. When you enter Cyberspace, the general rule is "if it's new, it's better than your older wares..", though the exact amounts of damage vary per attack. Once in Cyberspace, you can use your Software Analysis skill to dtermine the usage of programs, assuming I did not identify it (and there are a few..). As for necessary items, The only two I can think of at the moment are the gas mask, the guest pass & the security card. But those are mentioned above. The Software Purchasing List: Software you can buy at Finn's (Metro Holographix). But can get on a DB MAYBE.. Decoder 1.0: 750. (* On a DB: Don't buy *) Blowtorch 1.0: 750. (* On a DB: Don't buy *) Drill 1.0: 1500. (* Buy this, it is most powerful in non-cyberspace *) Probe 1.0: 150. (* Higher version on DB: Don't buy *) ****************************************************************************** ****************************************************************************** Part VII: Skill Chip Aquisition: Unless it is free, chips cost $1000 each. (total for all = $12,000). From Shiva at Gentleman Loser: Hardware Repair. Cryptology: It is yours for free, just ask for it from Shiva. From Julius Deane in his office. (Across from Loser..). Bargaining. Psychoanalysis. Philosophy. Phenomenology. From Finn at Metro Holographix. Ice Breaking. Debug. Go to Finn, buy Holy Joystick ($20). Take it to monks at House of Pong. Zen. (* Free *). Sophistry. (* Free *). Larry Moe (Larry's Software Store). Coptalk. Lupus(Panther Modern's room. After you ditch Larry.). Evasion. Emperor Norton at Matrix Restaurant (get "Pass" from Shiva). Logic. Software Analysis. Musicianship. The Japanese skill chip I have no Idea what it's for, or how you get it. ***************************************************************************** ***************************************************************************** Part IX:Upgrades ($1000 each..). Julius Deane Cryptology to Max. S.E.A. Level 1. Coptalk to Level 2. Emperor Noton Debug to Level 4. Zen to Level 2. Evasion to level 2. Software Analysis to level 2. Hardware Repair to level 2. **************************************************************************** **************************************************************************** Part X: Ice Breaking, and Necessary programs from non-cyberspace DBs.. Once you have a decent deck, get the following programs. Remember, in Ice/AI combat, some programs may be damaged, so carry extas of important programs. But remember, you also need room to download new programs from newer Cyberspace DBs as you go along. Gentleman Loser DB Level 2: Blowtorch 1.0 Hammer 1.0 Probe 3.0. Tokozu Level 1: Blowtorch 1.0. Decoder 1.0. Bank Gemeinschaft Level 1: Decoder 1.0. The most powerful Ice Breaking Software in non-cyberspace DBs is Drill 1.0, buy it for 1500 from Metro Holographix. Also, get Probe 3.0 from Loser DB, get any of the others for reserves.. I would recommend starting with 2 or 3 copies of drill 1.0 and getting more powerful wares in Cyberspace. I am not creating a list of wares in Cyberspace since you will have to, to gain Ice Breaking and AI combat expereince, enter every Cyberspace DB. All necessary tips for getting into Cyberspace are included, I think... If you have a problem, edit.. but for money, the Hosaka upload/ Hosaka paychecks/ Bank Transfer trick will enable you to get $100,000. Even the most expensive deck is about $45,000. While you can get buy with the $26,000 one if needed. <@@@Thanks to the Softlifter for testing version 4.1, and his questions..@@@> (***************************************************************************) (******************** This has got to be the end *************************) (***************************************************************************) original file date stamp: 10/14/1989
