Brief Instructions for PIX.WHIZ The text file PIX.WHIZ.DOCS contains the manual for PIX.WHIZ. What you need to know to run the program is contained in that file, but here are some things you need to know right off. 1. To create a self-booting disk, just copy ProDOS 8 onto the disc. In order to make room for ProDOS, you will need to move the files PIX.WHIZ.DOCS and READ.ME.FIRST to the back of 5.25" discs. If you launch the program from a program launcher, choose the file MICOL.SYSTEM. 2. The program can be used even if you only have one disc drive, although you will be in for some disc swapping. 3. Some of the operations take a while, so don't be impatient. 4. I have fixed the hardware conflict that prevented running PIX.WHIZ with a RAM drive installed on my Super Expander C aux type memory card, and I hope it is now fixed for most if not all of these cards. The problem, if you still encounter it, manifests itself when the program must switch between drives, such as during a load file or a save file operation, and a ProDOS "Volume not found" error is generated, regardless of whether the proper disc is in the drive. Shutting down the RAM drive seems to fix the problem. 5. PIX.WHIZ now runs with the Applied Engineering IIc system clock installed. Those of you who had conflicts with clocks may want to try it with them running now. If you still have trouble getting it to run, try turning off the clock driver. 7. Pix.Whiz is flaky on some IIgs's. I am attempting to fix the problems, but if you can't get it to work, try shutting off the IIgs and booting directly into ProDOS 8 as you turn it back on. If you have an accelerator card, it may help to set the speed back to 2.8 Mhz. 8. If you need to ask me anything about Pix.Whiz, my E-mail address is included below. If you find a bug, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let me know! I can't fix it if I don't know it exists.
