About Gzpk GT ------------- This program converts gzip archives to pkzip archives. There are three ways to choose the file to be converted: - Double-click a Finder icon (you'll have to edit the pathname to wherever you stick the program). - Pass the filename to the program with a shell (like Davex) or other programs that support the p8 startup buffer. Both of these will convert the file and then immediately exit. - Startup the program normally and use the browse-king mini-browser. This one lets you convert multiple files before exiting. About The Browser ----------------- The browser will initially only show direcories and files that end in '.gz', pressing Cmd-Rtn will switch it to a mode that also shows any text or binary files. Hit it again to switch it back. In addition: - Space allows you to select multiple files to convert. - Tab lets you select from a list of volumes. - Cmd+Left or Right switches to the next online volume with selectable files. - Esc exits the program. - Return or Right selects a file or directory. - Left backs up a directory level. - Cmd+Up or Cmd+Down moves up or down 10 files Launch file ----------- In the spirit of Wal-Mart (and all the other fine flag-waving, cancerous, discount one-stop-shopping establishments) Gzpk allows you to launch an application from within the browser (an unzip program perhaps?). The first step is to hit Option+Rtn which enables the browser to show an expanded directory set including sys & s16 files. Next, navigate your way to the application of your choice and type 'wal'. This will record the info into the 'Gzpk' file (no need for messy preference files) if it is online and unlocked. Say, that's *handy*. After the launch info is set you launch the file with Cmd+l. Exiting that application will take you back to whatever you used to launch gzpk. Notes ----- The program currently does not support the following features of gzip: - Encryption. - Extra fields. - Multiple parts. This shouldn't be too big a hardship since I haven't actually seen a gzip archive that used these features. I wrote the original code for this a few years ago so maybe something has changed, if so you can try reaching me at tom.larson@pcwash.com. Problems with Angel ------------------- Angel seems to have a problem extracting a deflated zip archive from within another deflated zip archive (what you would get if someone used gzip on a normally compressed zip archive). This shouldn't be too much of a problem since this is probably a pretty rare situation. Both PMPUnzip and Pkzip 2.04g handle this situation normally. It's not Daytona USA, but... ---------------------------- - Qfix 2.0 If limiting filenames to A-Z & 0-9 was such a good idea, why did Apple's subsequent operating systems allow you more? Fight the power and reclaim those extra characters. - 2qwk! 2.03 It's lean, it's mean, it's a qwk mailin' machine. Also includes the Qfix. Coming soon? ------------ - BsCCE What the he..? An update to binscii? Could be...
