The book therefore never says which > pin is which. Anyone know? The DE-9 connector (back panel) is shown, but the 16-pin DIP is missing. It is pretty easy working out the pin numbers on a standard DIP socket, so I don't think this is a major omission. (The same rules apply to every DIP integrated circuit.) The only issue is locating pin 1. There is a notch on the edge of the socket next to pin 1, and the pins are numbered anticlockwise from there. (The notch is usually in the centre, in which case you have to remember where pin 1 is located relative to the notch.) On the Apple ][, ][+ and IIe, pin 1 is in the top left corner. 1 |--v--| 16 2 | | 15 3 | | 14 4 | | 13 5 | | 12 6 | | 11 7 | | 10 8 |-----| 9 On the Apple IIgs, pin 1 is in the bottom right corner, so flip the diagram above. > Note that SW3 is new to the Apple IIGS. Actually the IIc only has two buttons, only supports two paddle inputs, and has no annunciators or strobe (no 16-pin connector). The ][, ][+ and IIe have three buttons, four paddles, four annunciators and the strobe. The IIgs has four buttons, four paddles, four annunciators but no strobe. -- David Empson dempson@actrix.gen.nz Snail mail: P.O. Box 27-103, Wellington, New Zealand
