(A disk image file should have a name ending in .dsk .) You can download DSK2FILE (recommend version 4.3 or later) at ... http://keaggy.intmed.mcw.edu/dsk2file.html ftp://ground.ecn.uiowa.edu/apple2/Emulators/ ftp://ground.ecn.uiowa.edu/2/apple2/apple8/Utils/ ftp://ftp.apple.asimov.net/pub/apple_II/utility/ A good way to transfer files from your Apple II to your PC is via a NULL modem connection. "NULL modem" means "no modem". A modem cable from the Apple II connects to a modem cable from the PC via a NULL modem connector. ____________ ____________ | PC or Mac | | Apple II | | running a | | running a | | telecom | <--modem--> [NULL modem] <--modem--> | telecom | | program | cable [connector ] cable | program | |____________| |____________| A NULL modem connector is just a pair of connectors wired 'back to back' with a few lines switched so that each computer views the other pretty much as though it were a modem. NULL modem connectors can be found at Radio Shack for a few dollars; or, you can make your own. For details about using DSK2FILE and doing NULL modem transfers see the FAQs files Csa2T1Tcom.txt and Csa2T2Tcom.txt at ... for Viewing via an FTP program or for downloading ... ftp://ground.ecn.uiowa.edu/apple2/Faqs/ for on-line perusing via Netscape, etc. ... http://www.grin.net/~cturley/A2.FAQs.and.INFO/CSA2.FAQs/ ftp://apple.cabi.net/pub/applegs/FAQs.and.INFO/A2.Csa2.FAQs/ You may have several Apple II games you'd like to transfer and play using AppleWin which are on copy protected diskettes. You will need to remove the copy protection on such a diskette before you can create a .dsk file-- this is often fairly time consuming. Before going to a lot of bother, check the Asimov archive at ... ftp://ftp.apple.asimov.net/pub/apple_II/images/games/ You can find many Apple II game disk images there. (To use a downloaded .gz or .zip file, use WinZip to uncompress it.) Rubywand
