As least, as far as my tests went. I set up a working DeskJet 500 with a Grappler + and AppleWorks 5.1's built-in DeskJet driver. Then I used the identical setup on a 712C. No dice at all with the 712. People are using 800's with AppleWorks, but as far as I know, no 700's. If you are using a 7xx, please tell us about it. - The 400 series is fully compatible with AppleWorks' DeskJet 500 drivers. Some minor tweaks may be needed for half-height super and subscript. Ask me about it, and (if needed) about special interface codes and other settings for AppleWorks. The best news of all.... The basic DeskJet model 400L is available at Wal-Mart stores for.. get this... $78. Why, the black inkjet cartridge alone that comes in the box is worth $30. This printer also prints in color with a separate color cartridge (untested by me). Add a Grappler Plus or other parallel card, and the cost for a brand-new inkjet printer that is fully compatible with AppleWorks is around $120.... including ink.
