You wouldn't install a NIC in your IIe, unless you want to set up AppleTalk between it and the Linux box. That's overkill, IMHO. If you don't already have one, get a Super Serial Card and some comm software and hang your IIe off a serial port on the Linux box. Hack /etc/inittab to allow you to log in over the serial port and you're done.
