The Apple II FAQs as recognized by Usenet news.answers is available on several sites: Ground offers pure Text for downloading or Viewing via an FTP program ... ftp://ground.ecn.uiowa.edu/apple2/Faqs/ Text on the ACN Florida, ACN Tarnover, and USA2WUG sites is line-length formatted for on-line perusing via Netscape, etc. ... ftp://24.96.48.134:6502/Cabi_Archives/FAQs.and.INFO/A2.Csa2.FAQs/ ftp://tarnover.dyndns.org/cabi/FAQs.and.INFO/A2.Csa2.FAQs/ http://www.grin.net/~cturley/A2.FAQs.and.INFO/CSA2.FAQs/ Or, in HTML at http://home.swbell.net/rubywand/A2FAQs1START.html Here is a snip from the File Utilities FAQ which talks about .nib files: >> Some copy protected diskettes can be converted to another kind of disk image called "NIB" using Saltine's Super Transcopy. SST incorporates Copy II Plus routines to attempt to produce a nibblized disk image of a 5.25" diskette. If successful, you have .nib file which can be used like a diskette on some popular Apple II emulators. The standard length of a .nib file is 232,960 bytes. << Using SST on an Apple II to transform a .nib file back to diskette, deprotecting the diskette, and then doing a plain .dsk conversion is one possible route; but, you would need an Apple II. Or, (again on an Apple II) you could deprotect your original diskettes and convert them to .dsk. There is a good deal of deprotection info available on the ACN Florida and ACN Tanover sites. (See the "Game Info" stuff in Csa2GAME.txt or go to http://home.swbell.net/rubywand/A2FAQs7GAMESITES.html .) Probably the single best source for deprotection information is a Computist magazine collection. Several Computist issues are availble thanks to Celt's Computist Project.
