He always uploaded a self-extracting archive along with a standard ShrinkIt archive so the chicken and the egg situation (how to unpack ShrinkIt if you don't have ShrinkIt) could be avoided. The following programs, all the latest versions as far as I'm aware, all exist in self-extracting as well as standard ShrinkIt archives: ShrinkIt v3.4 GS-ShrinkIt (GSHK) v1.1 II+ UnshrinkIt v2.1 Auto-UnshrinkIt v1.1 The 8-bit self-extracting archives are text files that you EXEC (ie. from the BASIC command line) to unpack. The GSHK self-extractor is a S16 file wrapped in Binary II to preserve the filetype, so it's a bit more complicated; you have to download to a IIgs with a telecom program that removes the Binary II and sets the filetype, or you remove the Binary II after the download with BLU or 8-bit ShrinkIt. If the Binary II was removed before moving the file to an Apple IIgs, then you'll have to set the filetype to S16 ($B3) manually. Once you've got the S16 file, launch it and it will unpack itself. I don't think there ever was an EXEC self-extracting version of GSHK. GSHK and its documentation file have resource forks, which makes it kinda tough to unpack from an 8-bit environment. If the FAQs don't reflect this information, they need to be updated. Or should I say, backdated, since this information is 7+ years old. :) -- /---------------------------------------------------------------\ | Tony Ward | NO UNSOLICITED EMAIL ADS | | (Remove the XXXX to reply) | Just say NO to SPAM! | | http://www.enteract.com/~tward | http://spam.abuse.net/spam | Condoms are like listening to a symphony with cotton in your ears.
