CIRTECH (UK) LIMITED ==================== From The Apple II & IIgs British User Group As related from Peter Stark on 6/1/93 I recently contacted Cirtech (UK) Ltd., in Scotland, to ask about their present activities. Catriona McKendrick of Cirtech told me that because of the decline in the market for Apple products, the company had moved into producing hardware peripherals for other types of computers and no longer manufacture Apple peripherals. However, Cirtech do still have some Apple products in stock and will support/service these products for as long as possible ('out with the length of the guarantee'). A list of the available products is given below, with prices, and I have added details of some of them. The prices shown represent considerable reductions over the list prices; now should therefore be a good time to buy any products that are of interest to you. Apple recommend fitting a fan to maintain the optimum, cool, operating environment. Okay, you need a fan but you can't stand the noise! --------------------------------------------------- Extensive research and development by Cirtech has produced COOL-IT, the whisper-quiet cooling fan for the Apple IIGS or IIe. COOL-IT, with its high quality bearings, special PBT fan blades and anti-vibration mounts, is three times quieter than Apple's own fan. So quiet, you can still hear your mouse squeak! Super-Cool! ----------- With COOL-IT, you can reduce your computer's internal temperature by more than 10 degrees and keep things really super-cool! Performance: ------------ * Energy-efficient COOL-IT uses less than one third of the power of the Apple fan. * Operates directly from your Apple's power supply - no dangerous mains voltages required. * Completely fail-safe design - an internal protection circuit prevents damage. Installation: ------------- * Fitted in less than 2 minutes. Absolutely no tools required - not even a screwdriver. * Doesn't obstruct any of the peripheral card slots. * Installed onto the side of the IIGS power supply. * Fits under the IIe keyboard. Specification: -------------- * current: 65 mA * Power: 0.78 W * Noise: 22 dB -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- PRIMO memory cards (information taken from CIRTECH's literature) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ * Gives the IIGS up to 4 Megabytes of additional memory. * Fully DMA compatible. * Fully compatible with ProDOS, CP/M Plus, and Pascal. * Is provided with support for DOS 3.3, allowing use of the IIGS RAM disk and other ProDOS storage devices by this operating system. * The Primo Support Disk provides an automatic memory tester for checking your Primo at any time. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- The InSyder SCSI interface (information taken from CIRTECH's literature) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ * Fits into any standard slot in the Apple IIGS or IIe and allows you to connect up to seven external SCSI hard disks any time you want, AND simultaneously share a SCSI hard disk with another seven Apple users (NOTE: the Cirtech literature gives further details of this capability). The card has a full feature SCSI port which supports all standard non-removable X3T9 specification SCSI devices. * Totally compatible with GS/OS, ProDOS, and all standard operating systems and programs. Fast access times and data transfer rates. * Two types of partitioning are supplied with InSyder: (1) a fully automatic system for GS/OS and ProDOS which automatically subdivides drives larger than 32 Megabytes into volumes, and (2) a unique dynamic partitioning system which allows you to set up variable-size partitions for different operating systems. Up to 64 partitions can be created on each of the two drives, and partitions can be created or removed at any time without affecting other data on the drives in any way. In addition, this versatile partitioning system also enables the external drive to be shared by other computers. * Fits into any standard slot in an Apple IIe or IIGS. * SCSI Port: supports up to seven X3T9 512-byte block SCSI devices, with simultaneous access to the first two devices by up to seven users. Interfaced via an Apple standard SCSI DB25 back panel socket. NOTE: Further details are given in Cirtech's leaflet on the InSyder SCSI interface. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- The Cachebox II series (information taken from CIRTECH's literature) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Cachebox II is the name of a range of print buffers, which connects easily between a PC and a printer or plotter. Important points include the following: * Multi-port parallel, serial and dual models are available. * Buffer capacities range from 256 K to 2 megabytes. Easily user-expandable. * Several PC's can share one or two printers or plotters. Each PC is independently buffered. All PC's can print to the Cachebox simultaneously. * Compatible with any PC, printer or plotter with standard parallel or serial interfaces. * Software-independent. 100% compatible with all applications or programs. * Appears as a super-fast printer to your PC and software. Can automatically print multiple copies of any document. * Ultra-high data transfer rates: up to 30,000 characters per second. * Built-in diagnostics. * Safe low voltage external power supply. * All cables supplied: just plug in between your PC and printer or plotter, and go. NOTE: Fuller details are given in the Cirtech literature on Cachebox II print buffers. -=-=-=-=-=-=- END OF 'OLD A2 CLASSIC' NEWS -=-=-=-=-=-=-
