The May, 1999 issue of GS WorldView is didicated to Boris Guenter, Terry Pratchett, Douglas Adams, Rubywand, Joe Kohn and Richard Bennett - who all taught me in their own special way - that you can't please everybody with everything. But, doing your best and trying to - makes for a better online community relationship in general. GS WorldView is a unique Apple II and IIgs Monthly 'Linear EZine' and there is no other such online site and Apple II/IIgs EZine styled as this one is. So, keeping in fashion with this unique style GS WorldView has to it - I've decided to adopt the (.ZIP) appended at the end of each ShrinkIt archive for this May, 1999 issue of GS WorldView WHY AM I DOING THIS? Simple, this is the standard archive file type for the PC and can thus be downloaded PROPERLY as a binary archive file type by ANY computer platform and/or OS; PC's, Mac's, the Apple IIgs and/or any other Apple II model, etc. Using this method - IN THEORY - all you need to do is simple download these ShrinkIt archives (all of which will end in .ZIP - IT WILL NOT REALLY BE A ZIP archive file - but, rather WILL BE a ShrinkIt archive of the respective ShrinkIt type archive file as required; SHK, SDK or BXY. After you download them with your respective computer platform and web browser, they should in reality - be a binary file that can then be moved over to your Apple II and/or IIgs computer - in the manner you normally move the archive to them and can be unshrunk with your ShrinkIt program properly - without having downloaded them in a corrupt manner. I want everybody on every type of computer platform and/or OS to have the use of the ShrinkIt archives presented from GS WorldView to use with their Apple II and/or IIgs computers - without having the problems of downloading them and finding them to be corrupted because of the problems of some people using other computer platforms besides an Apple computer, when downloads are made with their respective web browsers. This method was suggested to me and thus, I'm using it as a pure experiment - to see if this method will solve the problems some people are having when they do download the ShrinkIt archives with other computer platforms such as the PC, etc. I've tested them with a PC and then transported them to the Mac and also to the Apple IIgs and was able to unshrink them with no problems at all. I've had multiple reports and feedback over the course of the last few years that GS WorldView has been online for public access and download, from many people - about the problem of downloads as ShrinkIt archives via the PC and the users respective web browsers and other computer platforms, as being corrupt, when they have the ending of; .SDK and SHK. So, I hope that this method of using the .ZIP at the end of the ShrinkIt archives will solve such problems for all of the users of GS WorldView - without adding needless confusion to the matter, with downloading the archives. All Apple II models, the Mac's and the PC's, (even other platforms and OS's; Amiga, Commie, NeXT, Atari, Sun, Unix, Linux, etc.) can all handle a download properly with any web browser using the .ZIP appended to the end of the ShrinkIt archive. And, then transfered to your REAL Apple II and/or IIgs respectively and unshrunk with your ShrinkIt program, to suit your needs as; a folder with the files or even as a disk (.SDK), depending on the ShrinkIt archives format contained in the file. I've never had any problems with downloading any archive from any website or ftp site that was a ShrinkIt file format of any of its types, using my many models of the Mac. Likewise, I never had any problem with downloading the same ShrinkIt archive - be it actually a SDK or SHK file format type - when it was appended with a .ZIP at the end of the ShrinkIt archive file - to obtain the contents of the archive properly, using a ShrinkIt program on an Apple II and/or IIgs - or with the Mac - using either the IIgs emulator - Gus and ShrinkIt GS or the Mac ShrinkIt program: Shrink II. So, I'll be making all of the ShrinkIt archives in this May, 1999 issue of GS WorldView - using an Apple IIgs with the standard ShrinkIt GS archive utility, but, saving them all with the appended ending of .ZIP. I trust this will make it clear to you just exactly what the archives really are -> they are ShrinkIt archives and ARE NOT REALLY ZIP ARCHIVES AT ALL. Again - to avoid confusing you on this unusual method - PLEASE TAKE NOTE: THE ARCHIVES ARE REALLY SHRINKIT ARCHIVES with .ZIP at the end of them. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO UNZIP THEM WITH A ZIP ARCHIVE UTILITY PROGRAM. Use ONLY SHRINKIT programs to unshrink them!!! ONE MORE TIME TO CLEARIFY WHAT I'VE DONE WITH ALL ARCHIVE FILES IN THIS MAY.99 ISSUE FOLDER OF GS WOLRDVIEW...ALL of the contents of ALL archives in this May.99 GS WorldView issue and folder - ARE REALLY ShrinkIt archives - such as; .SDK ( 3.5 and/or 5.25 disk archives), when and as they are required and only then - as such - or SHK and GSHK. PLEASE contact me by email for advise - if you have any problems with your download of them or don't understand that -> ALL OF THE ARCHIVES IN THE GS WORLDVIEW MAY.99 FOLDER ARE REALLY JUST SHRINKIT ARCHIVES WITH THE -> .ZIP APPENDED TO THE END OF THEM. THEY ARE NOT REALLY ZIP ARCHIVES. I hope those that access and download the contents of the May, 1999 issue of GS WorldView will have no problems with the ShrinkIt archive file format appended ending as .ZIP. However, if...for any reason you do have any problem with the .ZIP name appended to the end of them, please email me and we can work on a solution to your individual problems with such archives and to clarify for you what they actually are and exactly how to unshrink them for your needs and use. This is just an experiment, suggested to me, that I've decided to try with this issue of GS WorldView - in an attempt to obtain a solution for those users that do seem to have problems with downloading ShrinkIt archives via other computer platforms (other than an Apple) using their respective web browsers, to avoid them being corrupt, when you download them. If this method I'm using appears to be too confusing to the users of GS WorldView with this May.99 issue and the change of the ShrinkIt archive being appended with the .ZIP ending - rest assured, I'll return to the normal ending of the ShrinkIt archives in the next issues of GS WorldView. Your feedback with respect to this experimental change will determine the type of appended name I'll use with the ShrinkIt archives, in the next issue of GS WorldView. I know that I can't please everybody. But, for some strange reason - I do keep trying! Your email feedback and comments on all of these issues are welcomed and I hope to hear from you with anything you care to relate to me concerning all of this. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- As a final unrelated note, tidbit and information preview for this issue of GS WorldView - (Remember David Young - aka; Dave Roberts, Stroker Ace, etc.) -> :) ? well, If you have and use the NeXT computer and have a need for an Apple IIgs emulator, I've just discovered that an XGS port, of sorts - as such...is in the works.
