11-5-99 A brief description and simple instructions for using the QuickTime to PaintWorks Animation software files in the archive QT.to.PW.SHK follows. The contents of this archive were given to me by Dr. Suzuki several years ago, to work with and pass on to other that might find it of some useful value with QuickTime movie conversions to the IIgs platform saved as file type $C2 PaintWorks animation. Obtain a QuickTime movie file saved in two segmented parts. They should be of a raw binary file type when using on the IIgs. Examples of such will be furnished upon email request. Put three files (PART1, PART2 and MERGER) in one folder, using whatever name you care to give the folder and double click MERGER. If both files PART1 and PART2 were ported correctly to the IIgs, then nan "M.SHOW" file will be created. Use Animation. View to see the animation or any other PaintWorks animation file viewer or player. It is possible to retain 256 colors with the PaintWorks animation file when it's constructed and merged, if the QuickTime movie animation sequence file is of such palette color assignment and saved in two properly exported files as PART1 and PART2. Dr. Suzuki related that he had no special utility to convert QuickTime Movie files into IIgs PaintWorks animation files other than these, using the above method. This step by step procedure is required. His friend, using a Mac gives him the frames extracted from QuickTime Movie files in the two segment files and then they are reconstruct as noted above to the IIgs "PaintWorks animation file from the PART1 and PART2 raw binary ($06) file type. It's best to make the file type change on a Mac as: "BINA" with the aux type or value as "pdos" and save them onto a ProDOS disk or hard drive, as required for using in the "QT to PW" conversion and merger, that will save them to a single PaintWorks animation (file type $C2). The aux. value of PART1 and PART2 files will appear on the IIgs as ($06. Aux. 0000). Check it out and give it a try. I hope your QT to PW animation conversion efforts are successful. If you need more help with them, just let me know. Cheers, Charles T. 'Dr. Tom' Turley Contributing Editor - GS WorldView Email: cturley@grin.net
