CALYPSO BULBOSA
E: Calypso Orchid
F: Calypso
G: Norne

This is a tiny, but extremely attractive orchid which grows only in the boreal conifer woods of Europe, Asia and Canada.

This orchid has a stem which is bulbous at the base. Below this lies a short tangled rhizom which is interwoven with the mycorrhiza fungus. Calypso sprouts only a single leaf and a single blossom in pink, white and yellow colors.

Unfortunately, this orchid is very advanced in the mycorrhiza. Furthermore it dislikes hot summers although it can endure extreme cold. This makes garden culture of Calypso a difficult, but not impossible task. Furthermore, snails can eat up the plant completely in one night if no precautions are made.
