CHAMORCHIS ALPINA
E: Alpine Orchid
F: Chame-Orchis
G: Zwergorchis

The tiniest of all european orchids can be found in the highest mountains in north and middle Europe. Between 1700 and 2700 meters above sea level, it grows on alpine meadows and rocky crags, often together with the fabled edelweiss.

The cold, chilling winds in these altitude force most plants to stay small. The Chamorchis rarely exceeds ten centimeters in height. It has round, orchid-like bulbs.

The extreme biotope makes it difficult to grow this plant in the plains. Nothing is known about the feasibity of garden culture.
