HERMINIUM MONORCHIS
E: Musk Orchid
F: Orchis musc
G: Honigorchis

A small, inconspicious orchid which grows only a few centimeters high. It can be found in the hills and lower mountains on slightly moist lime meadows almost everywhere in Europe and Asia. It can easily be overlooked between the grass.

The blossoms are green, small and only with a slightly larger lip. Thus Herminium looks more like a lily. The blossoms smell like honey or musk. They can pollinate themselves if no insects are around.

Herminium has forked bulbs, but it can create subterranean runners and thus new plants. Furthermore it can be cultivated well from seeds.

A mildly moist rock garden or alpinum would be the right place for this orchid in garden culture.
